Among the changes taking effect in Italy, July 1st, is the no-photographs rule. The rule is being abolished, so you can feel free to snap away.
In addition, on the first Sunday of each month, there will be free admission to all state-run museums, monuments and archaeological areas, including such sites outside Rome such as Pompeii, the Uffizi gallery in Florence, etc. It should be noted that this only applies to State-run sites, not those that are private or Vatican-owned.
Here is a list of sites in Rome that will be free the first Sunday of each month:
Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine, Galleria Borghese, Castle S.Angelo, Etruscan Museum, Caracalla Baths, National Gallery of Modern Art
And other sites near Rome that are also free on the first Sunday of the month:
Villa d’Este, Villa Adriana, Archeological Site of Ostia Antica, Etruscan Tombs of Tarquinia and Cerveteri
